Our farmers and ranchers are severely underserved by our current representatives. They have allowed the current administration to enter a trade war that has resulted in tariffs against our agricultural goods. The Nebraska Farm Bureau estimates that our state’s farmers will lose $943 million in revenue throughout 2019 due to the tariffs President Trump and Jeff Fortenberry support. Add to that the 2018 numbers, and we have lost almost $2 billion of revenue to this trade dispute.

This situation is unacceptable. Our agricultural community deserves representatives who prioritize their needs and advocate for fair trade practices. We need to seek new markets for our products, support local farmers through better subsidies, and invest in innovative agricultural technologies that increase efficiency and sustainability.

It’s time to stand up for our farmers and ranchers, ensuring they have the tools and resources necessary to thrive. We must work together to create policies that protect their livelihoods and promote the resilience of our agricultural sector. By supporting our farmers, we not only strengthen our economy but also ensure the stability of our food supply and the health of our rural communities. Let’s build a future where our farmers can succeed without the fear of punitive tariffs and economic instability.
